Supervisory Excellence Training, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Ohio

Teamwork is the bottom line for productivity given today's complex challenges. Individual team members can work most effectively in an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding. We'll work with you to enhance each individual's interpersonal and group communications and problem-solving skills, and dedication to the team's success.

Some examples of Ms. Beck's experience helping teams include:

National Forest Leadership Teams: Beck Consulting has been retained by two National Forests (in Montana and Utah) to assist their leadership teams in working together effectively.

National Park Administration: Ms. Beck was retained to develop and deliver a course specifically tailored to personal effectiveness for the administration staff of the Pacific Northwest region.

Constituency Building: Ms. Beck worked with two regional teams of Fish, Wildlife and Parks managers over the course of three years. The purpose of the work was to improve team effectiveness and strengthen both internal and external relationships.

Supervision: Beck Consulting was hired to custom-design and provide a course on supervisory excellence for Cuyahoga National Park (Ohio) and other parks within the park cluster. The course included examples specific to National Park supervisory challenges and role playing exercises based upon actual situations in the Park Service. The course also served to develop a more cohesive team of park supervisors.

Yellowstone National Park-Yellowstone Center for Resources (YCR): Ms. Beck was retained by the Park to facilitate a retreat for the YCR staff group. The staff group had undergone a significant amount of transition and no permanent group leader had been selected. The retreat focused on how staff members could work together more effectively, focus on the most critical work, and prepare for both a new Yellowstone Park Superintendent and new leader for YCR. During the close-out evaluation, staff members expressed their appreciation for the receptive atmosphere that had been created which allowed them to contribute freely.

National Advanced Fire and Resource Institute (NAFRI): Ms. Beck has twice been retained to design and facilitate staff workshops for the Institute. The Institute consists of staff units located in Arizona, California, Idaho, and Florida with employees reporting to both the Agriculture Department (Forest Service) and Department of Interior (Bureau of Land Management and Bureau of Indian Affairs.) There was a need to bring the staff from all of these locations together to address transition, mission and vision issues and build a cohesive entity despite their geographical distribution. Both sessions, held one year apart, achieved their stated outcomes.
